An exciting opportunity has become available with our prestigious client who is a prominent government department. The client is seeking an experienced DDaT – HEO - Infrastructure Engineer their welcoming team.

 

The team currently covers many areas of IT, including:  

  • Storage Systems from vendors such as Dell EMC, IBM, DDN, NetApp
  • Underpinning virtualisation via VMware  
  • Centralised Backup and Restore Service for the organisation (now a ‘hybrid’ solution hosted on on-premise storage and AWS  
  • Mainframes hosting a variety of critical Linux and z/OS based services 
  • Data archiving 

 

The role will include managing these on-premise based services and increasingly, over time, cloud-based solutions: 

  • Supporting business as usual activities
  • Investigating service issues and resolving operational issues in a timely manner
  • Producing and maintaining support procedures and documentation
  • Engaging with users
  • Contributing to team meetings to review and prioritise upcoming work. 

 

As an Infrastructure Engineer, within the SVM team the job would include these areas of focus:

  • Managing and supporting the organisations VMware estate primarily hosted at Exeter, as well as a small number of outstations
  • Installing and configuring new VMWare hosts, to refresh existing clusters
  • Managing and supporting a number of storage systems that underpin operational infrastructure, such as IBM V7000 and Flash Systems 7200, Dell/EMC Isilon/Powerscale cluster, DDN storage arrays and Net App AFF-A300
  • Installing and configuring new IBM Flashsystem 7300, working with consultancy service, and migrating from IBM V7000 systems.

 

It is expected that the focus will be to reduce the burden on the small team by providing BAU support for the organisation’s storage estate and VMWare environment, predominantly responsible for responding to incidents, investigating problems, and implementing changes. This role will also be asked to work on specific VMWare clusters and new IBM storage systems.
