An exciting opportunity has become available with our prestigious client who is a prominent government department. The client is seeking an experienced Director of Public Health to join their welcoming team.

 

The Director of Public Health Role:

The fundamental purpose is to provide the leadership to drive health and wellbeing improvements in the local community to reduce inequalities in health outcomes and protect from threats to their health through infectious diseases, environmental and other public health hazards.

  • Support the Chief Executive and Councillors in developing and delivering the organisation’s strategic agenda
  • Be the chief officer and principal adviser on public health to the organisation, local communities and local partners
  • Operate strategically as a member of the corporate leadership team and across the organisation influencing policy and practice
  • To deliver commission, and or deliver services which are effective, value for money and meet quality standards
  • To act as a leader across the local system of public services, influencing change and enabling a culture of continuous improvement in health and wellbeing, innovation and evaluation
  • Adopt a key leadership role within the integrated care system (ICS), working closely with the Integrated Care Board (ICB) and Integrated Care Partnership (ICP) and at Place. As a member of the senior leadership teams of the organisation and ICB, share in the development and review of corporate strategies and the allocation of resources to meet statutory and service requirements, to meet the needs of local residents
  • Utilise the public health resources imaginatively and cost effectively across all domains of public health in order to improve health and wellbeing of local communities and reduce inequalities in health outcomes
  • Accountable for both the shaping and delivery of the Health and Wellbeing agenda taking account of the national agenda and benchmarking (using the national outcomes frameworks; public health, NHS and social care)
  • Deliver an independent annual report on the health and wellbeing of local communities for publication by the organisation, to stimulate debate and/or action by the organisation and partners
  • Specifically, the DPH will work closely with local NHS colleagues and lead a team within the organisation responsible for the development of a strategic approach to improving population health and reducing health inequalities through leading and supporting the development and delivery of: Health Improvement, Health Protection, Health Care Public Health (HCPH)

 

What the Director of Public Health Will Need:

  • Registration with GMC/GDC/UKPHR with relevant practical experience or UK trained in Public Health with Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT), or be within six months of award of CCT by date of interview
  • Understanding of NHS and local government cultures, structures and policies
  • Understanding of social and political environment
  • Practical experience in facilitating change
  • Budget management skills
  • Understanding of the public sector duty and the inequality duty and their application to public health practice
  • Willing to travel on a regular or occasional basis
